Google Highlighter (if JavaScript enabled)
  1. Customize the cover letter so it is unique and related to the position to which you are applying.
  2. Follow all instructions in the advertisement and/or provided by the Human Resources Department.
  3. Keep the cover letter to one page.
  4. At the top, list your address and the date.
  5. Next, list the employer's (person's) name, if any, the company name and the company address.
  6. Address the letter to the person's name, if known. Otherwise, don't use a salutation.
  7. In the first paragraph, state the title of the position and the source of information about the position. Example: "I am applying for the Graphic Artist position advertised in the Boston Globe on February 14, 2007."
  8. In the second paragraph, briefly describe any related education, work experience, skills and accomplishments.
  9. In the third paragraph, let the employer know you are available for an interview and to answer questions about your resume.
  10. End the cover letter with your telephone number and e-mail address.
