  • Disaster Recovery Center to Open Monday in Fort Kent

    Augusta, Maine ? Officials from Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will open a Disaster Recovery Center in Aroostook County to assist individuals and business owners impacted by the flooding that occurred beginning April 28. The center will be at:

  • Registration with FEMA Begins Assistance Process

    Augusta, Maine - Residents of Aroostook County who experienced flood damage need to register with FEMA to receive federal assistance, even if they have already called 211 or contacted the Red Cross. Those affected can apply at www.fema.gov or by calling toll-free 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until further notice. Those with speech or hearing impairment may call TTY 1-800-462-7585.

    WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal disaster aid has been made available for the state of Maine to help people and communities recover from the effects of severe storms and flooding beginning on April 28, 2008, and continuing.

  • North Providence to Offer Student Emergency Preparedness Program

    BOSTON - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is initiating a pilot program for New England 4th grade students to teach basic emergency preparedness skills. The Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program will be offered by participating schools within the region. The North Providence School District will be the first district in the state to provide the STEP program to its pupils.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is initiating a pilot program for New England 4th grade students to teach basic emergency preparedness skills. The Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program will be offered by participating schools within the region. Warren-Prescott School in Charlestown will be among the first to provide the STEP program to its pupils.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is initiating a pilot program for New England 4th grade students to teach basic emergency preparedness skills. Joseph Lee Elementary School in Dorchester will be one of the first schools in the state to provide the STEP program to its pupils.

    BOSTON - Today, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $421,700 in Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) to a local fire department in the state of Connecticut. Nationally, the fiscal year (FY) 2007 AFG awards, which will be distributed in phases, will ultimately provide over $490 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.
