Massachusetts Network of Information Providers Fact Sheet

Financial Resources - Possible ...

One of the more frequent requests Information Specialist receive are those for financial assistance. Beyond the regular assistance provided by Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), there is precious little money available for people with disabilities. However, on occasion, private clubs / charities / organizations have been known to provide assistance when and if they can. The following is a list of groups who have either been known to assist those who need, or whose mission it is to provide (sometimes financial) assistance. Not all the groups provide financial assistance. Some may provide assistance in the form of a food- or a fuel-donation. Please pay special attention to the "CAVEAT (if any)" section of this document. That section is meant to detail the criteria a person must fit in order to call. If a group's specified criteria do not apply to you, do not bother to call.

Please keep in mind that these are merely possible resources. There is no guarantee they will be able to help. Names and numbers are given when they are applicable. However, several of the groups (marked by an asterisk *) operate on a town-by-town basis. Therefore, their numbers should be ascertained through the phone book, or by dialing 411. The contact person for service clubs is usually one of the club officers. Local Lions, Kiwanis, etc. may be located by calling their national headquarters.
